I love Jaci Burton and her Play - By - Play series. I've been following it from the beginning and haven't missed a single book. In fact I look forward to it so much so that I pre-order the books as soon as they become available. Yet this novella was a total disappointment.I liked Patrick ''Trick''. He was everything that we love about atheletes in sports romances. He's hot, sexy and full of stamina ;) However, I HATED Stella. There wasn't a single thing that I liked about her. She's selfish, immature and annoying. Frankly, I don't understand what Trick sees in her.
Trick and Stella run into eachother at a sports bar that they used to hang out at when they were seeing eachtother. Their once hot relationship kind of sizzled down and they ended up loosing touch. According to them, it was because of their hectic work schedule. How does that even happen? One minute you're hot and heavy and the next thing you know, you just loose touch and not even call eachother. Yet they both believe that they had a unique and deep connection, that they are the perfect match.
I know that they previously knew eachother. But the whole book felt like a booty call. I especially didn't like Stella's whole attitude towards relationships and sex. Her excuse for not wanting a relationship just seemed really lame and immature. I kept waiting for a real tragic reason for her to shy away from a realtionship with Trick, alas, it never came. She's a grown up, independent woman who has no problem taking care of her sexual needs, and yet she can't even see what's infront of her or appreciate it.
I am really disappointed in this book. I'm always so excited when a new book is released in this series. I literally count down the days and wait anxiously for it to be downloaded on to my Kindle. However, with this book I couldn't wait to finish it and couldn't believe that it was writtwn by Jaci.
But I have to say that at least one good thing came out of this novella and that was the sneak peek of ''Quarterback Draw'' at the end. This will be Grant's story and from the looks of it, it will be true to Jaci Burton's usual style, SIZZLING. I've already pre-ordered it and can't wait to get my hands on it!

I love any Jaci Burton series. Jaci Burton is a great story teller and I have never been disappointed in any of her story telling.
In this story, Stella, a Broadway dancer and Trick (loved that name) both have careers of their own. Stella has been burned by a former lover and it’s up to Trick to show Stella he isn’t that person and to take a chance with him. I liked how Trick dealt with Stella’s issues one by one.
I am going to add that in this story, I loved the fact that Carolina and Drew from ‘Melting The Ice’ were a big part of it. Novellas can be good reads but personally I want more story than a novella gives.
Might even just be a 3.5 stars, but since the author wrote about a dancer (working not wounded) which I always like to read about, I'll rate it 4.
The good about this book the heroine is a Broadway dancer, possibly poised for the big time. She is independent and NOT a sexual shrinking violet. She looks great. I appreciate how the author realistically depicted how hard it is to be a dancer and that it's somewhat of a hand-to-mouth existence.
I loved the male lead, Trick. He was great - loving, considerate, generous, willing to be honest about his feelings.
The bad about this book the heroine needed to A) put on her big girl panties when it came to entering a relationship. The previous serious one she had ended 8 years ago and it wasn't the worst break-up ever - she should have been over it by now. B) appreciate when a good thing comes your way - particularly when the male lead keeps trying to contact her after she dumps him - seriously she needed to grow up and communicate, not jump to conclusions. Because she is this way she is TSTL in my opinion and as a result, this is why I take off a star. Also, I felt like there was too much sex and the author could have spent more time writing about what the leads are like outside of their jobs and when they're having sex with each other, i.e. develop the characters more.

Character Introductions
Patrick “Trick” Niemeyer plays professional hockey for the Travelers. Stella Slovinski is a professional dancer and best friends with Carolina Preston. They met, originally, about a year ago through Carolina and Drew and had an off/on relationship for a few months. Now, she's scored a lead on Broadway and he's still concentrating game to game to make it to the finals, their schedules are even busier than ever. The magnetic attraction is still there between them and Trick wants to try again, but Stella is afraid to commit to a relationship.

A longer novella, this book is falls short of being a full-length novel. The only previous Play-by-Play characters that make an appearance in HOLIDAY ON ICE are the Travelers and new characters are even introduced. Trick and Stella are solid, likable characters. Stella is completely commitment-shy due to a bad experience in her past (quite a while back) while Trick is ready to settle down. The dialogue and interaction feel a little stiff, and almost too proper, in several places. The flow of the story is smooth, however it's sometimes difficult to pack a lot of dimension into it when the book is so short. The plot was not flat, but could have benefited from a little more dynamics. There was a minor conflict which was fairly easy to resolve, extremely minor predictability, and a rock-solid conclusion.
Overall, it was a short and sweet Holiday Novella that fans of Ms. Burton and her Play-by-Play series should enjoy.
