Residential Design Using Autodesk Revit 2014 is designed for the architectural student new to Revit 2014. This text takes a project based approach to learning Revit in which the student develops a single family residence all the way to photo-realistic renderings like the one on the cover. Each book comes with a CD containing numerous video presentations in which the author shows and explains the many tools and techniques used in Revit 2014.
This book starts with an optional basic introduction to hand sketching techniques and concepts intended to increase your ability to sketch design ideas by hand and to think three-dimensionally. The lessons then begin with an introduction to Revit 2014. The first four chapters are intended to get the reader familiar with the user interface and many of the common menus and tools.
Throughout the rest of the book a residential building is created and the many tools and features of Revit 2014 are covered in greater detail. Using step-by-step tutorial lessons, the residential project is followed through to create elevations, sections, floor plans, renderings, construction sets, etc.
About the Videos
The videos contained on the included CD make it easy to see the menu selections and will make learning Revit straightforward and simple. At the start of each chapter the reader is prompted to watch a video that previews the topics that will be covered in the proceeding chapter. This allows the reader to be familiar with the menu selections and techniques before they begin the tutorial. Readers will feel more confident in what they are doing and have a better understanding of the desired outcome of each lesson by watching these videos.

Mmm.. I had a hard time with this book. It is easy to follow. And I am sure everybody can do the tasks, but I am not sure if everybody will learn with this method. Here you will build a big house from foundation to last details in 3D, and it is actually the house the book shows in its cover. And it is so amazing once you get it. But the entire book is meant to built this house, so there is no other examples to practice with. Only this house. You will follow instruction by instruction to complete all the steps in order to build it, but you are only following steps. It does explain you what are you doing, but to me it was completely tedious since you are learning what to do in order to complete this only project, not different projects. I wish the book had more examples with different projects to practice the diverse parameters and tools Revit has. But it only has this house to practice and it is not enough to learn all the wonderful tools REVIT offers.. So although is does explains you what are you doing in every step, at the end you will be following tasks by tasks. And once you want do draw another project by your own, you will see yours is different, and that the only practice you had drawing was with one unique project. And I don't think this is the best way to learn all the drawing process ... There is a lot of thinking and making the math in order to doing correct. It is not so difficult, but it does requires a lot of practice and in this book you do only one time every step..Revit is not easy to understand for everybody, a program like this deserves a better way of teaching it.. PD, my book arrived on time and had good quality ;)Product details

The CD that came with this video did not work at al
I was horribly let down. I was expecting more...You are better of going to YouTube.
This is a good book for learning the basics. If you are a novice to Revit this is a good purchase. Don't expect to become an expert at Revit with this book or a great house designer! Having said that if you don't know nothing about Revit this is a good start.
Good book to follow along to when learning Revit, and if i need to look back to help me if I'm lost the book is straight forward in help the "basic" level stuff
I'm in my second year of an Interior Design design degree, preparing for the fall semester. It was highly encouraged to get the software and learn it before the semester started. This is a good primer and reference.
I am an instructor at a community college in North Carolina, and I was tasked with a job to find a book to use for our Advanced 3D course. We installed Revit Architecture 4 years ago, I have been using this book ever since. This book gives a step by step instruction on how to use the Revit software with a good understanding of it as well. If you follow the book step by step you can apply these applications to learn more in designing your own residential projects. I like how informative the books were and how the steps were broken down, along with how the images were related to the steps made it clearer to understand at what stage you design progress should be. I was very happy with the outcome of my students when the projects were completed.
